(Also, the pans don't rub or scrape against one another, which minimizes damage to your valuable investment.) A wall-mounted rack is the best choice for low-ceilinged kitchens, and as an added bonus, it doesn't block overhead light. Calphalon's patented pot rack hooks can support up to 60 pounds each. They slide freely up and down the rack but won't come off when you reach for a pan. I have five of them. They are exceptionally sturdy and they are designed so that the hooks don't come off when removing a pan. I have had hanging racks in the past that become unbalanced when more than one pan is removed. Although the bolt holes match the distance between the wall studs, I have mounted them on strips of oak. The pans hang away from the wall and hold a lot of very heavy duty pans with no signs of strain.
